I’ve tutored IB History for six years, mostly HL students working on authoritarian states, Cold War case studies and Paper 2 essays. I spend a lot of time on source evaluation because that is where many good students lose marks. IA lessons are practical: research question first, then evidence, then a tighter argument. I also help students trim overlong drafts without losing the historian’s voice or key detail.

Hi, I’m a History tutor who mainly works with IB students who feel buried under content. My lessons are fairly chatty, but we always end with a clear essay plan or source paragraph. I especially like teaching 20th-century Europe and helping students turn long textbook notes into something they can actually use in Paper 1 and Paper 2. I’ll usually ask for one piece of writing before we meet, even if it is rough.

I teach IB History alongside my work in historical research, so my sessions are quite focused on argument, evidence and wording. I have supported students with HL topics on nationalism, war and dictatorship, including several IAs that needed rescuing late in the year. I’m direct with feedback and mark essays closely against the IB bands, especially when claims are too broad or narrative-heavy in exam answers.

My background is in modern European history, and I’ve spent the last eight years tutoring IB History online. I like lessons to be calm and specific, with plenty of sample paragraphs rather than vague advice. Recent students have worked on Germany, Russia and the Cold War in close detail.
